Here are some things I've written for my own use, enjoyment and enlightenment. In the hopes that others might find them useful, herewith I share my humble efforts. :-)

Warning: download these, don't copy-and-paste! Copy-and-paste can result in lines being unintentionally wrapped and hard-tabs being converted to spaces. Not a Good Thing.

Linux "Authorization Log Entry" Summarizer

authsumm.pl produces a summary of login authorization log entries for Linux systems. (I say "Linux systems." It was developed and tested on a Red Hat 5.x system. I assume they all produce the same log entries.) You feed authsumm.pl your /var/log/messages and /var/log/secure files.

FTP "Transfer Log" Summarizer

xfersumm.pl produces a summary of FTP file transfer activities for the "anonymous FTP server" included with Red Hat Linux systems. (This is wu-ftpd, is it not? Xfersumm.pl was developed and tested on a Red Hat 5.x system.) You feed it your /var/log/xferlog file.

IP Address Sorting/Counting/Whatever Utility

ipsort.pl is a small Perl-based utility I threw-together to quickly sort and count dotted-quad IP addresses found in a flat-text file.
